All Human Beings, Without Exception, are Deeply and Profoundly Musical

Simply Music’s Founder, Neil Moore, had the privilege of speaking at TEDx in Jacksonville, Florida on musicality and technology. Here is a blog post of his from 2015 highlighting his key content. - Gabi

”We have a unique opportunity to play a role in contributing to the evolution of human consciousness and self-expression, through music” – Neil Moore

“Many of you know how much I love technology, and how excited I am about its future integration into our lives. So much is changing in the world, with both the speed and breadth of change being unlike anything we have ever witnessed before in human history.

“Even so, for all of the wonderful advancements of developed nations, there is much that we have lost and even more that we are yet to find. In spite of so many wonderful forthcoming developments, we are constantly facing challenges that require more of us. In this day and age, we need an entirely new perspective and creativity.

“Einstein said: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. We require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”

“Many people aren’t aware of the fact that Einstein was a devout and accomplished musician. He says much about this in his writings, but perhaps nothing more profound than this, “The theory of relativity occurred to me by intuition, and music is the driving force behind this intuition. My parents had me study music from the time I was six. My new discovery is the result of musical perception.”

“I say that there’s nothing more potent, more powerful and more profound in its ability to shape the brain, to shape our minds and to shape our capacity to think creatively, than discovering our natural capacity for musical self-expression. Yet why does it remain so that in many countries, where music is taught using traditional, more formal and theoretical approaches, only a fraction of music students ever learn how to play well, and even fewer experience musical ‘freedom’ and self-expression?

“In contrast, why is it that in so many undeveloped, or lesser developed nations, where music is naturally integrated into the fabric of life, it is a natural by-product that everybody, from children through to elders, is fully, freely, musically, self-expressed?

“As music enthusiasts, students, support-providers and/or educators, we have a unique opportunity to play a role in contributing to the evolution of human consciousness and self-expression, through music. Never before has there been such an opportunity to contribute to that possibility, than now. We have, in our hands, the means of causing a breakthrough in music education, in both the learning and teaching of music. Fundamentally this requires both believing in, and standing for the fact that every human being – without exception – is deeply, naturally and profoundly musical.

This video highlights how one culture expresses its ability to organically nurture, develop and sustain our innate musicianship.”
