Music Rhapsody

We are thrilled to offer this outstanding music and movement program for families of children age infant through five in Ankeny.
Children thrive on routine and repetition. Think about the songs you learned as a child - the ones you remember the most are the ones you heard most often. We use this as a basis for teaching children:

  • Neurological, Academic and Social Development

  • Pitch Matching

  • Discriminate Listening

  • Aesthetic Taste

  • Balance and Coordination

  • And much more!

“The Music Rhapsody program, developed by internationally renowned music educator Lynn Kleiner, addresses each age and stage of childhood development.

It meets your child exactly where he or she is.

Beautiful and diverse songs, singable phrases, and the use of repetition, instruments, puppets, and visuals all foster the love of music in an exciting and creative environment.

It’s a program that, to its core, acknowledges and values the input and creativity of each and every child.”

“I really think these music classes at Passion Studios are paying off..... L. has been singing along with Hamilton more, and is even making up songs...”
— Megan J.
M....does LOVE going to music class every Saturday and talks about it all the time. It’s been phenomenal to see her learn and thrive in a setting like yours.

Connection

Your little one will develop emotional awareness and social interaction with you and others

What Class Looks Like:

  • Exploration: Start with a new or familiar song to develop name recognition, spacial awareness and tonality

  • Lesson: Instructor has a variety of repeat and new songs depending on the module the students are in. For instance, you may hear BINGO a few classes in a row to reinforce pitch matching, but each age group will have an age appropriate activity related to the song. Babies may bounce on your lap, but toddlers will do a dance associated with the song. Additionally, you may hear new songs each week.

  • Song Structure: Some songs build on repetition so the children learn song structure, like a 12 bar blues, through motions and dancing. Other songs develop aesthetic taste, so they can distinguish classical music originating in Europe from a strong rhythmic beat like Shosholoza from Africa.

  • Dynamics and Expression: We also work heavily on dynamic and terms. Children learn words like forte, piano and express through movement, dancing and singing. They also tend to recognize these expressions outside of the classroom.

  • Discriminate Listening: Later in the class, we build on instrument recognition by only playing instruments the instructor is calling out. Since you will have your own instrument kit, this will be easy!

  • Closing: Students identify instruments played in our closing song, and receive a stamp at the end of class for fun!

The Success Mindset

  • Be committed to the process, even if you or kiddo is having a bad day. This is NORMAL and expected. Everyone in life, young and old, has great, ok and bad days. Your little one may not always feel like participating, especially in the beginning. This is okay. They will open up, and they will come to love the classes, their teacher and their friends. Be open to your little one having the same emotions that you experience day to day!

  • Because your child is developmentally in an age appropriate class, it may not always feel fun to you as a parent. Remember that the sociological, academic, and musical discernment and learning is happening underneath the activities. Repetition is where our students thrive and build neurological connections!

  • You are contributing to a lifetime of music and learning for your child! The longer you stay in classes, the more development you will see over time.
